Esperanza is a beautiful subtropical shrub loved for its clusters of brilliant yellow trumpet-shaped flowers. Native to areas of North America like Texas and Arizona, it attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators. Once established, it’s heat and drought tolerant, so it requires little care-allowing you (and the butterflies and hummingbirds) to enjoy its abundant natural beauty.
- Northern areas, it can reach about 6 ft. Tall and wide, but in frost-free areas, it can get more than 12 ft. Tall and wide
- Northern areas, it flowers from late Spring to autumn; in frost-free areas it can bloom all year-long
- Grows best in full Sun (at least 6-hours of direct Sun per day) or part Sun (morning shade with afternoon Sun)
- Drought tolerant once established but benefits from regular watering
- Note: plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested additionally, exposure to the sap of plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact, grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption
- Typically deer- and rabbit-resistant, but individual animals may eat it
- Frost-free regions, it can be pruned and grown as a small multi-trunk tree
- Zones 10 to 11, but can be grown anywhere as a landscape annual or in container gardens
